Us Bilateral Visa Waiver Agreements

Bilateral visa-free agreements allow some non-EU passport holders to stay in the Schengen area without a visa beyond the 90-day limit. But what is a bilateral agreement and how can travellers benefit from an extension of the visa exemption in Europe? At the end of the ETIAS validity period, third-country nationals may continue to apply for an extended stay in a country with a bilateral visa waiver agreement. As the ETIAS expires after 90 days, foreigners must remain in the country beyond that border. It is common knowledge that citizens of many third countries can stay in the Schengen area for up to 90 days without a visa, thanks to the EU`s visa liberalisation policy. While the process is complex and unique for each country, the brief answer is that it is up to you to track your entry and exit dates and to have proof that you have legally stayed in that country under the bilateral agreement. When entering or leaving a country with the intention of using a bilateral visa waiver agreement, it is recommended that you use a train, bus or ticket to enter and depart so that your ticket receipt can be used as proof of the data you have entered or left. Once you are in the country, you keep receipts for things like accommodation and activities (even on your bank or credit card statement, but physical receipts are better) to prove that you have been consistent in this country. In principle, it should be obvious to officials that you have spent all your time in your election country or that you may be suspected of passing your Schengen visa. Students (of any nationality and living in a country) who require a visa for the Schengen area, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus or Romania and who are studying and/or training, waive visa application fees (but remain required to provide appropriate supporting documentation).

[75] In general, a passenger who crosses a single airport in the Schengen area, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus and Romania, while he remains less than one day in the international transit zone, does not need a visa (transit privilege).
